OUR STORY

Representation matters! Coralville, IA is one of the most diverse cities in the state. Among its vibrant communities, Asian American make up 9.4% of the population, or approximately 2,120 residents. Coralville Asian Festival is dedicated to creating and sustaining an inclusive, welcoming, and a safe space where neighbors can connect positively and celebrate the contributions of our Asian community to the rich cultural fabric of Coralville and the broader Johnson County. Our festival aims to promote Asian cultures and provide educational experiences, fostering a more supportive, diverse community and encouraging openness to equity and equality across our city and county. Through this meaningful cultural exchange, we aspire to build a stronger, kinder community.

OUR COMMITTE MEMBERS

Diana Boeglin, Donor Relations Coordinator

Diana (Di) Boeglin, a Coralville resident since 1994, is a passionate advocate for cultural appreciation and community involvement. She has played a key role in building connections and securing grant funding for the festival.

Omega Blessing Dancel, Founder

Omega (Meg) Dancel, a Coralville resident since 1992, immigrated from the Philippines. She brings a deep knowledge of Filipino cuisine and cultural traditions. Her enduring commitment to community services has made a lasting impact in Coralville, enriching the lives of many and celebrating the beauty of diversity.

Hai Nguyen Vo Huynh, Founder

Hai Huynh immigrated from Vietnam at the age of 16 in 1993. She made history as the first Vietnamese woman elected to public office in Iowa, serving as a member of the Coralville City Council. A dedicated public servant, Hai prioritizes community well-being and plays a key role in ensuring the long-term sustainability of the festival.

Jenny Huynh, Volunteer Coordinator

Jenny Huynh is a third-year student at the University of Iowa who grew up in the Iowa City/Coralville area. Some of her favorite childhood memories include traveling with her family to attend Vietnamese concerts and explore Asian markets - experiences that once meant going out of town. Today, the Coralville Asian Festival brings those rich cultural experiences home. 

Ming Lodh, Founder

Ming Lodh immigrated from China and holds numerous roles that inspires the next generation to embrace cultural diversity. With a strong background in organizing cultural events, she promotes understanding and collaboration across communities. She has also cultivated valuable partnerships with various local organizations to support and celebrate community diversity.

Jamie Nguyen, Event Coordinator

Jennifer Nguyen, Founder

Jennifer Nguyen, a Coralville resident since 2007, a first-generation American and eldest child of Vietnamese immigrants. As the first in her family to graduate from college, her journey has been shaped by perseverance and a strong commitment to community. She is committed about creating meaningful experiences that foster a sense of belonging.
